Pocket Spring Mattresses

Pocket spring mattresses are very popular nowadays. The reason for this is that the price/quality ratio is very high. Don't worry, you are not lying directly on the springs. There is always a layer between the springs and the cover of the mattress. But what are the advantages and disadvantages of such a pocket spring mattress? We list them here for you.

Advantages:
  • The ability to work with comfort zones. A big difference with the bonnel springs is that the springs in pocket spring mattresses are packed separately. This allows to work with different ergonomic zones. For example, by creating a softer zone for the shoulders, the back remains straight when you sleep. This way you will not feel discomfort when you get up in the morning.
  • If you move, your partner won't feel it. This is because the springs are not connected to each other. By compressing one spring, the others will not move.
  • You don't feel the springs (unlike bonnel springs).
  • Less expensive than latex mattresses of the same quality.
  • Better air circulation of the mattress. A latex mattress often breathes a little less well. A person loses about 300 ml of fluid every night. The open structure of a pocket spring mattress ensures that the mattress can ventilate better and regulate moisture. The cover of the mattress and the layer on the springs also partly determine this, of course. Some covers have an integrated drymash band on the side that further encourages air circulation.
  • Wide choice of hardnesses (soft, medium and firm).
  • More pleasant temperature control (cooler in summer, warmer in winter).
  • There are special types of pocket springs such as the Temporis pocket spring or the Anatomic pocket spring that provide even better support.
Disadvantages
  • Less flexible than latex mattresses. In the case of (electrically) adjustable beds, it may be more interesting to go for a latex mattress.
  • May not be folded or rolled up.
  • Part of the lying comfort is determined by the layer on top of the pocket springs. This layer can be less permeable to air, just think of memory foam.
